MODERN SELF-DEFENSE FOR ADULTS
Mondays & Wednesday from 7:00pm-8:30pm
Tuesdays & Saturdays from 11:00am-12:30pm
Not Your Typical Martial Arts Classes!
Gendai Goshin Jitsu is a self-defense art focused primarily on teaching realistic self-defense skills to people of all ages.
For women, the concerns are more obvious and they are welcome to participate in the open adult class or attend a women only class.
All of our students will learn simple physiological and psychological principles for dealing with realistic, threatening situations.
Every principle and technique taught is thoroughly scrutinized to ensure its effectiveness under realistic and dynamic street conditions.
We believe “how one trains is how one reacts.” At Gendai Martial Arts, we combine experience and science with proven concepts and techniques derived from karate, ju jitsu, judo, aikido, kempo, goshin jitsu, wrestling and weapons.
At Gendai Martial Arts, we combine experience and science with proven concepts and techniques derived from karate, ju jitsu, judo, aikido, kempo, goshin jitsu, wrestling and weapons. Our system is specifically designed to hone one’s ability to quickly assess simple, vulnerable point targets of opportunity and capitalize on them with the most effective tools available.
In addition, no two people are the same… not in mind nor body. So, instead of the typical cookie cutter approach to teaching, ours is customized to each person’s individual needs (ie. height, weight, fitness level and even injuries). Anyone can do this! And, we constantly strive to improve what we know and teach. All this in an enjoyable and safe training environment.
Think about this! Not everyone will face a threatening, violent attacker in their life. But, 100% of those we have spoken to who had such an experience in their life, wish they had been taught how to prevent it from happening to them.
Where and when are the adult classes held?
Our classes are held inside the MWC Sports Complex at 2510 Long Mill Rd, Youngsville, NC 27596
on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00pm-8:30pm and on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 11:00am-12:30pm.
What are your classes like?
How one trains is how one reacts. So, we teach practical principles and train under realistic street-like situations as often as is feasible.
You may ask, isn’t that dangerous or at minimum rough? Some schools believe that the only way to train for the street is under full contact conditions.
It probably is the most realistic, but not the safest nor the most enjoyable. As most adults must hold down jobs in order to pay their bills, you can’t miss work due to injuries.
And, kids wouldn’t find such hard-core training very fun. We provide a safe and enjoyable, but realistic training environment for everyone.
Typical martial arts schools teach using scripted responses, or even worse, students attacking in karate/taekwondo stances, etc. verses realistic scenarios like we use. Our students are taught to attack like real bad guys do.
As a result, each student develops realistic bookmarks in the brain for surviving what actually occurs in the world in which we live.
What do I wear?
Our adults are welcome to wear sweat pants and a t-shirt. If you decide to join our program and attend regular classes, we offer our school t-shirts. In addition, we do ask that you wear shoes appropriate for training on wrestling mats – either wrestling shoes or a martial art shoe. For your Easy Start Orientation classes, a clean tennis shoe is fine. Every male student will need to purchase a groin cup to be worn in class.
What benefits can I expect from your program?
◉ Less intimidated by other people or situations
◉ Increased self-esteem and assertiveness
◉ Greater confidence
◉ Get into great shape
◉ Improved leadership skills
◉ Improved ability to communicate clearly and directly
◉ Increased problem solving skills
◉ Increased focus and effectiveness at work
◉ The ability to remain calm and use clearheaded thinking during stress or crisis
How do I get started?
We recommend starting out with our $50.00 introductory program consisting of 4 Easy Start Orientation Classes described below.
Easy Start Orientation Classes:
These classes are geared toward easing you into the idea of training in a martial arts class likes ours and to introduce you, quite frankly, to why we say that we are NOT your typical martial arts program.
These are scheduled in advance and during our regular Mondays and Wednesdays adult class from 7:00pm-8:30pm.
Essentially, we assign a more senior student as your partner and take you through some of our common principles and techniques.
This will hopefully provide you with a fun experience while simultaneously learning what our program is really all about. And, after your very first class, you WILL come away with useful skills and knowledge you can put to use.
What happens after the 4 Easy Start Classes?
If you are serious about taking the next step with us, one of our staff would sit down with you to discuss what plan best suits your situation. We do not require any student to sign a contract. Our goal is to treat you like a valued customer so you will want to keep coming back to class. We do, however, offer special rates for those who are willing to make a long term commitment. But, we are first and foremost honest about what one will gain from our classes verses trying to get you into a contract. Most sign up for classes in 3 month segments.
Special Notes to Keep in Mind...
#1. We realize that no two people are alike. We customize what we teach to each individual because our experience and feedback tells us that the typical cookie cutter approach to teaching does not work!
#2. Many women, especially those having survived domestic violence or sexual assault refer to our school as "their safe space." We appreciate that and work diligently to preserve your safety and your trust.
